Diary Cards - "Normal Day" Entry

A normal day has only one duty period and no on call duties. Only three items are needed to define a normal day. The analysis will average all the normal days entered to give the average hours in the normal working week for the group. It will also average the start and end times for each day of the week to give day lengths to compare with the standard working week.

Start of Duty

The time the duty period started. NB 24 hour clock is used.

End of Duty

The time the duty period ended. NB 24 hour clock is used.

Rest

The total rest in the duty period (expressed as hrs:mins). See A Definition of Rest for details of what “rest” is in terms of the “New Deal”.

Natural Breaks

HSC 1998/240 specifies that 30 minutes of continuous break after approximately 4 hours continuous duty, should be achieved during the normal working day. If there are concerns that this is not being achieved, then a detailed diary study of normal days should be undertaken. Recording natural breaks in detail should clarify the matter. They are not part of the rest calculation.

Work Episodes

If the option to "Input work episodes for all days" has been checked on The Group Information Input Screen, there will also be a grid for entry of this information. See Diary Cards - "Day With Out of Hours Work" Entry for details.
