Inappropriate Duties

Many doctors undertake a range of duties which should be undertaken by technical, clerical, administrative and other staff.

Trainees should not routinely perform the following:

·      locating beds

·      collecting and delivering investigation requests and results

·      ward clerk or portering duties

·      phlebotomy service or anti-coagulant clinics

·      administering cytotoxic agents, intravenous drugs and contrast media

·      supervising exercise ECG stress tests
