Normally, a database is used by DRS to hold work pattern and diary card data. At times, it might be useful to save this data to a file so that it can be shared with others, archive copies kept, etc. The data saved to file is in a standard format (XML) and could be used to import DRS data into other applications that use the XML standard.
Saving Data
· From the main DRS screen select the work group to save to file or use shift+click/ctrl+click on the record selector column (the far left column) to select a number of work patterns.
· From the "File" menu at the top of the screen, select "Save As"
· Select the location and name for the file. It will automatically have .xml added to the name to signify the type of file it is.
· Click on the Save button to create the file.
Opening a Data File
· From the Main DRS screen, click the "File" menu at the top of the screen and select "Open".
· Find the file containing the data you wish to load and click the Open button.
· The work groups in the data file will be displayed on the screen in place of the list of work groups in the database.
· An information area at the bottom of the screen will display the name of the file loaded and all normal data input and analysis functions can be performed on the data.
On the "File" menu, the "Save" option will now be available. Selecting this store any changes and additions to the loaded work patterns back to the same file they were loaded from.
The "Save As" option will work in exactly the same way that it did when working on the database. It will save selected work groups to a file.
The "View" menu can be used to switch between looking at the work groups from the loaded file ("File") and the database ("Database"). If you have not loaded a data file in this session with DRS, the "File" view will show the data from the most recently loaded file.
It is possible to move selected work groups from the loaded data to the database
· On the main DRS screen (file view), select one or more (use the record selector column) work groups that are to be copied to the database.
· On the "Edit" menu, click "Copy the work group(s) to Database"
· An exact copy of the file data will appear in the database
